trust + faith (and what it’s got to do with your biz decisions)

hey, blood orange punch.

last week in the sanctum we had an impromptu deep dive into faith, trust, and the difference between the two

normally these convos happen within the context of our community card pull, but this time it unfurled during our intro connection time — where we share our thrills + thwacks for the day or week

a sanctum member shared a win that she was having a hard time trusting

a couple weeks previously, our community card was “faith in the process” from the sacred rebels oracle deck by alana fairchild + autumn skye morrison

this member said how she often defaults to thinking about TRUSTING the process, but that faith + trust might in fact be different things

and i was like “oh yes, i have thoughts on this”

and she was like “oh yes, i think you may have a book in you on this!”

before i share some of what came through for me, i’d love for YOU to take a moment to simmer on faith + trust and what each means to YOU

i broke the difference down in the session, super simply, to this:

trust requires proof, faith does not

trust is built, faith exists

trust must have history, faith might have it but doesn’t need it

we build trust by continually having trust-inducing experiences. whereas faith is more of a belief or a decision to believe, regardless of or even in spite of logic, fact or proof

i often talk about the work i do, that before it was work, it was personal practice + experience

my connection to my own intuition, and the connection to something greater, something divine, something MORE…

i don’t claim to understand how it all works

and i don’t need to, because i have faith in it

i ALSO have trust in it, because of that history of trust-inducing experiences

but i didn’t NEED the trust, because the faith was there

and i refused to talk myself out of it

this kicked off such a rich discussion where everyone shared different insights into their own relationship between faith + trust — how they interact with one another, whether the one can exist without the other, etc

i invite you, just as i invited sanctum members that day, to pause, observe, maybe recalibrate, maybe make some decisions —

around how your unique relationship with trust + faith plays out in your decisions, both personally + professionally

to notice if it feels supportive, or if there’s something you could do to support yourself better in the faith + trust department

and of course, to then go do that ;)

ps: in case you didn't make it to the end... here's a spicy little thriveandbloom way to think about where to place faith versus trust ;)

hey, almond paste. who knew it was actually true… but size really doesn’t matter before you come for me, hang on a beat + hear me out i don’t know what you had on YOUR mind, but i’m talking about the unfortunate cultural norm of classifying joy into different-sized buckets small pleasures. appreciating the little things. microjoys i mean, YES i WANT you to enjoy simple moments + daily delights (they’re an integral part of claiming joy like it’s your job, after all) what i’d love for you to...

hey, salty caper. bandaids don’t always make it better, and healing generally involves way more time than we’ve been socialized to believe whether we’re talking injured body parts or emotional wounds, surface healing doesn’t mean your insides are well yet, and often the most healing work doesn’t show visible results for more time than we’d like real healing takes time, and trying to shortcut it will yield cut short results we’re just so damn busy though, so eager to slap a well sticker on our...

hey, lemon cake. so, prioritizing self-care doesn’t always look the way you think it will (or how everyone else tells you it should) sometimes it looks like rest and if you need that, by all means REST i took a 2 hour nap yesterday because i really couldn’t not today i’m hunkering down one of the things i love to help you do is learn to trust yourself to know when you need the nap + when you’re using it as an escape… learn to trust yourself to discern when you can afford to take that space to...
