what are YOUR guardrails for this?
Published 1 day ago • 3 min read
hey, sprig of thyme.
i was having (an amazing!) dinner with a couple of friends last night (at barcelona, haven’t been there is a MINUTE + it was just as incredible as ever 🤩)
we were catching up on all the things, including the juggling act that is handling all the things WITHOUT sacrificing your health + overall wellbeing
one of them asked what my “guardrails” are, for making sure i don’t get run down or push myself too hard for too long
i said when i find myself wanting to cancel plans with friends or avoiding making plans in the first place, that’s one of my signals that it’s time to slow down —
because that’s not the life i’m here for
a little later she asked about joy, and how we keep it present — even (especially) when headlines in the US just continue to get ever more sensational + intolerable
earlier she’d shown me a video she had taken of a squirrel sweetly snacking on the carved pumpkin on the front stoop of the airBNB she was staying at
our other friend had shared a video she’d made stitching together all the bright foliage still on the trees here that she’d captured while enjoying walks over the past few days
i referenced those + said “that’s how”
engaging with the beautiful, the amusing, the interesting, the curious —
the wonders all around us
what others call “the little things” but i call “everything”
one of the greatest ways we can claim joy like it’s our job… EVEN when we’re overwhelmed, overextended or just plain tuckered out —
is to pay attention to the delights that surround us + follow us in our days
to let them energize + sustain us
saturday morning i went to a local farmers market, and sure… i left with a couple (delicious) items
but beyond that, as pretty things popped out at me while browsing the stands, i leaned in + snapped some pics
the camera helps attune me to what i see, and those images will remain —
long after i’ve finished the last peppery taste of radish + bright dense bite of that vitamin C-packed green i can’t remember the name of
if you’re struggling to find the joy in your days — especially as they fill with more seasonal + year-end tasks, i invite you to tune in to the sights + sounds around you that might quietly dazzle or delight
for me… i love to snap pics because the process brings me further into the magic
but by all means, keep your tech out of it if that feels better for you
and if you’d like to gift yourself guardrails for getting through the season unscathed + utterly joyful, i invite you to join us in UNAPOLOGETICALLY UNFRAZZLED
i call it a 6-week living ode to trusting your own damn self + staying whole this holiday season
and we start this week! (first sessions on thursday)

hey, lemon curd. welp, im keeping my candle… for now ;) no one ventured a guess at the name of my new program, so if you were THINKING about it, know that you prolly woulda won had you just sent it along! but in a way, it’s kinda perfect that you didn’t… because maybe you were preserving your peace maybe you had too much on your plate + something had to give maybe you didn’t get to even read yesterday’s email yet and the lesson is two-fold: you can say NO to things + be just fine… even when...
hey, jackfruit steak. shall we play a game? (we are the same if visions of a babyfaced matthew broderick now dance in your head, too — name that movie, bloom!) anyway… i’m about to drop a beautiful little 6-week container/experience that will help you finish the year strong + sustainably in your business — while preserving your personal peace + presence can you guess what i’m calling it? the name is made up of two words that both start with the prefix UN — un-this un-that for example:...
hey, baked brie. she said she just couldn’t ignore it, ya know? in our most recent one-on-one coaching session, client jen told me how she had managed to apply to three great-fit jobs that week — even though it had been about six weeks since she’d applied anywhere, and it’s not like she had suddenly STOPPED being pulled in fifty-two different directions or anything… it was quite an accomplishment, and as i virtually high-fived her for it, she said this: yeah… it was one of those things, why...
