why make peace with not doing the thing?

hey, garlic knot.
i know we love our checklists, and crossing items off them
and you know i’m all about making sure that what’s ON them in the first place makes best sense for YOU —
which means that you’ve probably already eliminated most of the unnecessary tasks on your list that reflect other people’s goals, wishes + intentions more than your own
(way to go! or, if this is something you struggle with — give a shout to talk through how i can help)
but now that your lists are filled with the right-for-you tasks, it’s time to dial in your timing, expand your options, and exercise achievement-optimized flexibility
achievement-optimized flexibility is what i literally just now decided to call this thing that’s one of the indisputable keys to my success as an intuition-driven entrepreneur
it’s what allows me to honor my energetic + interest-based ebbs and flows while still actually getting shit done!
it’s about creating spaciousness in your schedule that greatly reduces the need to force yourself to do things when you’re NOT most primed to do them
the antidote to working under pressure + deadline motivation, achievement-optimized flexibility allows you to trust yourself to get tasks done —
without the threat of looming due dates + withdrawn approval from people you’ve outsourced your power to
this occurred to me as i was thinking about something i wanted to share with you around doing things for the wrong reason —
and THAT occurred to me as i found myself wanting to email you, possibly for the wrong reason!
i’ve been a little quiet lately, so i felt like i wanted to reach out to you with a short email
(plus, not gonna lie… in her “astrology of the week ahead” reading this week, chani nicholas highlighted today as a good day to communicate vision, and i didn’t want to squander the moment)
while you may or may not resonate with that second reason, you can probably admit that at the very least it’s not hurting anyone
and the first reason likely sounds pretty sensible
whether nurturing connection is a personal value of yours, or you’re looking at it from a purely strategic standpoint, emailing your community regularly is smart
but… not just for the fuck of it
you need to have something to say!
i want my communication to be on purpose, because i’ve got something interesting, important, or beautiful to say
so if i set out to email in order to check off a box rather than to say something real, it feels gross on my end. and it’s pretty pointless anyway because it won’t likely land for you, either
and man!
how many card-carrying “hard workers” do you know who muscle through to-do lists thinking they’re doing great things for their biz —
when in reality they may be harming more than helping
in reality, they may be much better served by a little flexibility over straight-up box-checking…
to wait on writing the email til they’ve got something to say rather than send a throw away message that does little more than create distance + dissonance for everyone
to work on something else more aligned right now, swapping schedule entries so the thing still gets done, just not right now
it might sound simple, but it requires deeply-rooted trust in oneself to divest from needing rigid deadlines + checklists to keep you accountable
again… i’m not saying to toss deadlines + checklists out the window, or suggesting that we don’t need to honor commitments + make incremental progress!
what i’m saying is that when you outsource accountability to other people + things, you keep yourself in a perpetual state of getting in your own way —
depleting the efficacy of the work you do by not tending to your energetic + intuitive state when you do it
robbing your efforts of their full impact
keeping you less satisfied AND less successful
and THIS is an important message to share with you, so here i am, sending it
i’m growing a list of things we sometimes do for the wrong reasons (in life or biz)...

hey, pickled pepper. meet ‘em where they’re at — it’s a tenderhearted battle cry for folks here to lead, educate, and love well it’s the opposite of expecting everyone to be where you are or where you want them to be — in how they relate to you, what you believe, and what you need it’s a hallmark of compassion, empathy, understanding + love i bet you’re all about meeting everyone else where they’re at… but answer me this: who’s meeting YOU there? and perhaps even more importantly: are you...
hey, baked bean. unless you’re a car or a spine, “alignment” might seem more woo than worthwhile to pursue that would be a mistake though. alignment is the tough-to-nail-down but utterly indispensable foundation for all the big work we’re here to do in this world when your values, beliefs + actions are aligned, decisions become so much easier to make. you have less to question + even less to prove and when those things are misaligned? people can feel it — even if they can’t name it (NB:...
hey, snowrose. you know the saying — how you do anything is how you do everything? well, i’m not a fan. not really because the way i clean my house is not at all the way i write these messages to you, for example the one i do begrudgingly + a bit halfassedly. the other i absorb myself in so completely that i need to set alarms so i don’t accidentally blow off plans and if i put my all into cleaning the house the same way i do to write these messages, and if i do that for all the other tasks i...
