flexible structure + getting shit done

hey, cheese tray.

what do you do when there’s a shitton you COULD be doing + you aren’t feeling focused, but you ARE feeling motivated + ready to get down to biz?

i regularly use a combination of:

  • whiteboards (3)
  • NUMEROUS google cal reminders (color coded by mood at the moment rather than in pursuit of organizational purposes) — for weekly AND daily goals/tasks
  • sticky notes
  • torn scraps of paper
  • voice memos
  • a journal for strategizing out at cafes or parks
  • dedicated google docs
  • hastily made lists + plans started in whatever google doc i’m in at the mo

i know — doesn’t sound super efficient, but it works for me

not long ago i found myself with tons to do AND tons of time in which to do it (an underrecognized sweet spot for feeling abundant + action-oriented — both former words of the year for me

i love to let my intuition lead the way on days like that, to determine which task i do first or at all, based on a blend of:

  • what i literally feel drawn toward – where my body leans in toward a task (and saving the ones my body moves back from for later or another day)

  • which tasks leave my body feeling energized from within or expansive as opposed to draggy or constricted

  • what i feel pumped to do or what lights me up (as opposed, again, to what feels draggy or bums me out)

NOTE: this doesn’t mean i never do draggy things!

while i WILL muscle through draggy things when i have to, something wonderful often happens when i’m able to allow a bit of spaciousness in terms of WHEN i do what needs to be done

that space is often just what i need to feel, if not psyched to do the draggy things, at the very least cool with them

it’s a dance of honoring what excites, clearing overwhelm, lessening urgency, and feeling so freaking grateful at dedicating myself to practices that let me honor my wants more often than not

and it often alleviates a lot of the drag. even when it doesn’t, it becomes way easier to choose to just dive in + get the thing done

anyway, on that particular day i needed something that would get me acting on ONE of the handful of possibilities quickly — before i risked losing momentum

and nothing rose up as being more enticing to work on than anything else, so i decided to take these teeny little “to do” note flags from a desk cal set that had thus far proven wholly impractical because the sticky part didn’t actually stick

i had kept them because 1) i don’t like to waste shit and 2) i had a feeling that at some point they might indeed come in handy, though i had no idea how

AND THAT RIGHT THERE IS INTUITION IN A NUTSHELL —

i had a feeling, a hunch, an intuitive nudge or knowing that i didn’t understand + couldn’t clarify

and i honored it anyway, not needing to know why

at its root, intuition is all about not needing to know why

i put the first few down + worked through, adding more as ideas came rather than letting them slow me down or paralyze me

when i started to have what felt like too many, i sorted them into groups — what already had some progress to it versus what would be starting from scratch

then i sorted around what might feel better being moved to tomorrow versus what was definitely still in the running for today

this technique helped me make big moves over the course of a few weeks + feel fab doing it

sometimes a strategy or practice will serve you well for years, others only for a day

what works for some may never work for you — no matter how sexy or proven it is, no matter what big deal expert or influencer insists upon it

i love to teach brilliant, passion-powered visionaries how to leverage their most valuable natural resource to better blaze their own paths to biz success + personal satisfaction

ready to ditch following everyone else’s rules over your own inner knowing?

hit reply + tell me one thing you’re DONE trying to force in your biz, and what you’d love to experience instead

hey, chicken strip. 🚨 stop joining communities to be polite pssst: you can sub “joining communities” with whatever else you’re doing because it would feel rude or uncomfortable not to you work, feel + love too damn hard to slowly smother yourself under the weight of being a “good” friend, colleague, partner or lover it may feel easier to just click “accept” on that group invite than to say it’s not a good fit for you right now same for the new client, volunteer position, date invite or collab...

hey, sesame seed. listen, there will always be some sorta valid bullshit reason to sideline your joy — especially in your business there will always be voices urging you to deprioritize your joy — insisting that it’s impractical, unreasonable + irresponsible to seek joy as a metric of success it’s one thing to SAY you want to claim joy like it’s your job, or to know that you’d like a more joyful experience in this one sweet life of yours that’s the easy part (even though i know you might...

hey, blueberry bush. make recordbreaking bank — when i set this intention for the year ahead back in december, i suppose maybe i should have been more specific 🤦♀️ because i sure did break a record recently, but not in the way i had in mind filing my taxes this year revealed to me that last year i made the least amount of money i’ve ever made, since i was like twelve (only the slightest of exaggerations, i’m afraid) on the up side, it does give a little validation to how tough it’s been to...
