lipservice or living it?

hey, baked bean.

unless you’re a car or a spine, “alignment” might seem more woo than worthwhile to pursue

that would be a mistake though. alignment is the tough-to-nail-down but utterly indispensable foundation for all the big work we’re here to do in this world

when your values, beliefs + actions are aligned, decisions become so much easier to make. you have less to question + even less to prove

and when those things are misaligned?

people can feel it — even if they can’t name it

(NB: clients are indeed people)

the good news though, is that it’s actually super easy to start building alignment in your life + biz

you can do it in small steps. you can start NOW

all you need to do is identify or acknowledge one of your core, deeply-rooted beliefs. and then act on it in some big or small way

with the transition from one year to the next, your priorities are be default front + center right now

whether you’re setting intentions, selecting a word of the year, or you’re into that resolution-setting racket, there’s no way you’re not thinking of what matters to you most right now

you might be focused a little more on the micro/personal level — tangible goals you want to achieve in your life + biz

but i encourage you to consider the bigger, more macro/global values you wish to live + breathe as well

checking in with your mission or vision statement is a great place to start!

for example, one of my main micro goals in the year ahead is to create + publish an oracle card deck

on a more macro/global level, i want to help more people trust themselves at least as much as everyone else + stop outsourcing their power to others

if i’m looking to act in alignment with my oracle card goal, some small simple steps i can take are:

  • schedule time into my calendar every week to work on the project
  • start saying NO to other projects that will whittle my time + attention
  • start asking clients what they love about the decks they love, and what they’d love to see in a deck i would create
  • research deck manufacturers + publishers
  • run ideas by my community, mentors + guides

if i’m looking to act in alignment with my macro goal, my steps might be a little less definable, but no less effective:

  • continue to act from a place of deep self-trust
  • notice when it’s tough to do that, and support myself the way i need
  • admit when self-trust feels tough
  • engage in potentially challenging conversations with folks who may undermine my self-trust, as well as folks who may be struggling with this themselves

and perhaps most importantly, to keep living this belief in word + deed. to make the decisions that feel most right + true for myself, regardless of any side-eye or flack I might get from others

to do it in my life. to do it in my business

to understand that this is what it means to “be the change you wish to see in the world”

to know that, in a world hellbent on keeping you following rules meant to render you small + disconnected from your power…

trusting yourself as your own best expert is revolutionary

to accept, finally, that all these boxes cannot contain you

and to do it one small decision at a time

that’s one of the things i love so much about my YEAR AHEAD spread —

it’s an opportunity to walk your talk in the moment, that also sets you up to KEEP walking it long after

it’s a chance to connect to the wisdom + desire you’ve likely been shoving aside or squashing down as impractical or unimportant —

something for another less busy, less critical moment that never comes

just daring to be so bold as to invite your intuition to the planning party in the first place is a way to align your values with your actions

and then after the session, every time you apply + act on what comes up for you, you’re creating countless mini moments to keep practicing

to make it a lifestyle

to perpetuate alignment + make it sustainable

to feel like you’re living the life you were meant to live, and creating the experience of business you envisioned when you started this wild entrepreneurial, small biz/big purpose life

to stop paying lipservice to your values while unintentionally undermining them

if you’d like to see what a YEAR AHEAD spread can do for your alignment + how it can help inform your big + small decisions in life + biz —

you can do it at a $50 savings through the end of the year (read: TONIGHT!)

BEHIND THE ENDEARMENT:

every 8 months or so i get a childhood craving for kielbasa + baked beans. which is what i had for dinner last night + am about to have again for lunch

i suppose i could have called you “kielbasa,” but as a chubby kid who grew up in a portuguese fishing town, whose name happened to loosely rhyme with a portuguese sausage… i would never lol

hey, snowrose. you know the saying — how you do anything is how you do everything? well, i’m not a fan. not really because the way i clean my house is not at all the way i write these messages to you, for example the one i do begrudgingly + a bit halfassedly. the other i absorb myself in so completely that i need to set alarms so i don’t accidentally blow off plans and if i put my all into cleaning the house the same way i do to write these messages, and if i do that for all the other tasks i...

hey, buttercrunch. so, picture this… it’s christmas eve at my grandparents’ house, circa maybe like 1980 or so everyone’s packed in the kitchen, likely getting in the way of my poppy + my mom who are no doubt preparing the smelts + clam sauce + five other fishes for our traditional italian christmas eve feast everyone but me, that is as the story goes, all of a sudden from the kitchen they heard my sweet small voice — maybe i was four or five, and i certainly wasn’t as much of a loudmouth...

hey, cranberry garland. i just finished my holiday shopping! and by finished i mean started, too (except for like 2 teeny things a few weeks ago) and by finished i also mean i still have one gift left to get this year i was ahead of my gift buyjng game, though still way behind according to most i actually had everyone taken care of with 5 whole days to spare this year!!! (wrote that part thursday morning) everyone, that is, except THE one the one that matters the most — the one whose gift i...
