social justice, self-trust, and taracle cards

hey, hot sauce.

a few months ago i had a chat with billie smith — a friend, colleague + inner sanctum member since feb 2024, as well as owner of move with billie + creator of the rebel movement club (which i’ve been a member of for over 2 years now, too!)

the goal was to capture what it’s like to BE in the inner sanctum, to put into words some of the benefits of being a part of it. here are a few nuggets billie shared:

  • space to check in with yourself, your body, your inner wisdom, and connecting with community — like an inner uprising, and then being able to bring that to bigger uprisings in your life (when asked about the UPRISING part of the UPRISING inner sanctum name!)

  • a way of bringing in some sort of spiritual practice + connecting it to the rest of your life in a way that's community-based, so it's a little more supportive for folks who, like me, aren’t super confident with taracle. taracle! tarot or oracle cards, at all!

  • practice witnessing other perspectives and still being able to have your own… which is so nice, because it's not an easy thing to do for a lot of people, but it's such a safe environment to have that practice in

  • it can be really easy to second guess yourself when you're doing literally anything in this world. and it's helpful to have a little space where you can practice moving through all the stuff that comes up with any of this work

  • that practice of being able to trust my own perspective instead of defaulting to other people being the expert-ier expert — that wasn’t something i was expecting, but it’s a very helpful practice for me

  • my business needs are not more important than my own personal needs

MESSAGE FROM BILLIE:

Hi! I’m Billie.

I am a queer yoga/movement teacher, trauma/abuse/ED survivor who is disrupting the norm and going against the grain. I am throwing diet-culture, spiritual-bypassing and other excluding narratives into the trash, because you deserve better.

You deserve a movement class that helps you learn to check in with you feel instead of how you look; a class that frees you from expectations and empowers you to take what you need and leave what you don't.

If that sounds scary, whether it's in group classes, one-on-one, or my workshops. I lead with an open heart, and will walk through all the scary shit with you. I use what I've been through, along with my 600+ hours of training to hold a safe, inclusive space for this rebellious movement.

Declare freedom from diet-culturey, feeling-shaming horseshit, and move your bodies for your emotional health, to increase mobility and strength, and to feel good in your body for longer.

You deserve that freedom.

hey, almond paste. who knew it was actually true… but size really doesn’t matter before you come for me, hang on a beat + hear me out i don’t know what you had on YOUR mind, but i’m talking about the unfortunate cultural norm of classifying joy into different-sized buckets small pleasures. appreciating the little things. microjoys i mean, YES i WANT you to enjoy simple moments + daily delights (they’re an integral part of claiming joy like it’s your job, after all) what i’d love for you to...

hey, salty caper. bandaids don’t always make it better, and healing generally involves way more time than we’ve been socialized to believe whether we’re talking injured body parts or emotional wounds, surface healing doesn’t mean your insides are well yet, and often the most healing work doesn’t show visible results for more time than we’d like real healing takes time, and trying to shortcut it will yield cut short results we’re just so damn busy though, so eager to slap a well sticker on our...

hey, lemon cake. so, prioritizing self-care doesn’t always look the way you think it will (or how everyone else tells you it should) sometimes it looks like rest and if you need that, by all means REST i took a 2 hour nap yesterday because i really couldn’t not today i’m hunkering down one of the things i love to help you do is learn to trust yourself to know when you need the nap + when you’re using it as an escape… learn to trust yourself to discern when you can afford to take that space to...
